71 Years In The Making

At 71, Heather Kummerfeld has arrived at a place many spend decades striving toward: genuinely accepting and celebrating the woman she has become.

Born and raised in Mackay, Heather’s roots have remained firmly planted in her hometown despite adventures across Australia and around the world.

‍

Her greatest joy lies close to home, surrounded by family and friends, supporting those she loves and finding purpose in small acts of kindness. Add the opportunity to dress up, put on some lipstick and share good food and a glass of bubbles with friends, and life is even sweeter.

Yet the confidence Heather carries today was built over time.

‍

She describes a journey through shyness and self-doubt, alongside love, happiness, grief and loss. Her proudest achievement was raising a kind and successful son with her husband of 50 years, and watching their family grow to include two much-loved grandsons.

“I am who I am and I accept and am confident with the woman I have become.”

Now, following the loss of her husband, Heather carries both gratitude for the life they shared and determination to embrace the years ahead.

“Life is precious and I am grateful for every opportunity to laugh, love, make memories and embrace whatever adventures may still come my way.”

Encouraged by her niece to join the Women Over 40 Project, Heather has also begun recognising in herself the strength, intelligence and independence her loved ones have long seen.

‍

Perhaps her best advice comes from experience:

“Live fully, laugh often, love deeply and make the most of every beautiful moment you are given.”
