Struggling with your skin can feel like a silent battle, slowly chipping away at your confidence, no matter your age. Whether you’ve dealt with breakouts since your teens or are facing flare-ups later in life, you’re not alone.
At Skin Esteem, founder Jo Parker offers more than just skincare. She brings empathy, expertise, and a supportive space where clients feel truly seen. Having faced her own skin challenges from the age of 14, Jo understands the emotional toll skin issues can take.
“My mum booked me a facial for my 14th birthday, and I was hooked,” Jo says. “I was fascinated by what the therapist was doing. It sparked an obsession. I just wanted to learn how to treat skin and help people feel good in theirs.”
Jo’s approach is deeply client-focused, aiming to treat more than just the surface. With services ranging from lymphatic drainage massage to personalised skin plans, Skin Esteem is where results and relaxation meet. It's a place to reset, feel empowered, and embrace your natural beauty.
“Getting results is one thing,” Jo explains. “But I’ve found the clinic experience needs to be therapeutic too. It’s not just about the skin. It’s about how the client feels. If I can help someone feel better about themselves, or simply give them an hour to pause, then I’ve done my job.”
Every treatment plan is tailored following a complimentary consultation. Jo takes the time to understand each individual’s concerns and develops a personalised approach that aligns with their goals. Her method is non-judgemental and respectful. She never points out flaws but instead lets clients take the lead in expressing what they’d like to address.
“There’s nothing better than seeing someone’s eyes light up after a treatment,” Jo says. “And hearing how they feel afterwards. That’s everything.”
“Sometimes it’s just a small treatment, like IPL. It might not seem like much, but it can make a world of difference. It helps with pigmentation and encourages healing, especially in those stubborn spots that won’t improve on their own. For me, that’s the special part. Knowing that something so simple on my end can be truly life-changing for someone else. That’s what makes it so rewarding.”
“I really do care about the outcome of each person.”
Skin Esteem emphasises that consistency is key when it comes to your skin. “A lot of people start something and give up too quickly because we’re so used to instant results, especially with social media. But if you’ve got a skin concern, it can take up to 12 months to see real change. You’ve got to stick with it—consistency is everything. If you’re going to start something, give it a solid three months before deciding whether it’s working for you or not,” Jo explained.
What is the best food or supplement you can’t live without for maintaining healthy skin?
“Collagen! We stop producing collagen naturally after the age of 23, and from there it decreases by about 1% every year. That’s essentially the ageing process. But the good news is, you can actually trick the body into stimulating those collagen-producing fibroblasts, helping your skin create more collagen well into later life.”
What's a common misconception or health myth about skin that you'd love to debunk?
“Glass skin facials. There’s no such thing as glass skin—real skin has texture and tone. A lot of what you see online is just filters, lighting, and heavy oils. It’s not realistic, but people come in asking for it all the time. It’s especially harmful for young people who think that kind of skin is achievable, when it’s not. It really messes with their mental health.”
