What is Telstra Satellite Messaging?
Telstra Satellite Messaging lets customers on eligible plans send and receive text messages from their compatible mobile phone when beyond the range of our mobile network, connected to satellite, and outdoors with a clear view of the sky.
The service is included in eligible Telstra Upfront Mobile and Business Mobile plans. You also need a compatible device with the latest software, check our website for more information.
How it works
When you’re out of our mobile network range and in an area where satellite coverage is available, your compatible device will automatically seek a satellite connection if you’re outdoors with a clear view of the sky. Once connected to a Starlink Direct to Cell satellite, the phone will display “Telstra SpaceX” on the network banner.
Does the weather impact my ability to sue Telstra Satellite Messaging?
Weather and other environmental factors may affect how the service works. This technology is evolving and continues to be tested in a variety of weather conditions.
Can I use Telstra Satellite Messaging to call 000 Emergency services?
Telstra Satellite is not designed to be an emergency service and should not be relied on in an emergency. You cannot call Triple Zero form a Telstra Satellite service, nor can you text Triple Zero directly.
To access Telstra Satellite Messaging you’ll need:
Then, when you are out of reach of Telstra’s mobile network and as long as you are outdoors with a direct line of sight to the sky in an area where satellite coverage is available, your mobile will automatically seek a satellite connection and, once connected, you will be able to send a text message to friends and family.
Available from outdoor areas in mainland Australia and Tasmania where there is satellite coverage.
