M&P – Key Solutions Group Charity Golf Day Tees Off A Decade Of Giving

There are golf days — and then there is the golf day.

Now in its 10th year, the M&P Services–Key Solutions Group Charity Golf Day has carved out a singular place in Queensland’s philanthropic landscape, becoming a flagship event where community spirit and generosity meet the green in full swing.

This annual affair, held at the Mackay Golf Club, has grown from a modest charity event into the largest fundraiser of its kind in Central and North Queensland. And at the heart of it all is a man whose passion for golf is only rivalled by his commitment to his community — Max Lamb Jr.

What began as a creative response to economic hardship has evolved into an enduring tradition.

“The annual golf day was born in the downturn,” Max reflects.

“Businesses were really feeling the pinch in 2012 and 2013, and by 2015, charities were truly suffering.”

It was then that Max — Director of M&P Services and an avid golfer — recognised that while his usual supplier events were losing momentum, there was an opportunity to transform a beloved pastime into something far more impactful.

“I thought of a golf day, which linked a personal passion of mine with something I could make truly special,” he explains.

Special is an understatement. In its inaugural year, the event raised a respectable $6,000. By year nine, that figure had skyrocketed to over $61,000. This year, organisers are aiming to surpass $75,000 — a milestone that would push the total funds raised across a decade to more than $350,000.

And true to its guiding motto, “the funds stay local,” every cent supports grassroots charities doing essential work across the Mackay region.

What makes this event so magnetic isn’t just the cause — it’s the culture. From team prizes and a memorabilia auction to a high-energy raffle brimming with luxe prizes (a cyclone-rated modular “Club House” complete with a Smart TV and fridge, anyone?), the day strikes the perfect balance between purpose and play.

There’s even a quirky lineup of charity challenges — “Hit and Hope,” “Putt for Dough,” and the fan-favourite “Dry Village” hole, where pledges go toward tents for Mackay’s homeless community through Chances House.

And while networking among business leaders remains a core feature, this is not a boys’ club. The event draws an increasingly diverse crowd, including many all-female teams that are just as competitive on the course — and arguably, even more stylish.

“It’s a day for everyone,” Max notes.

“There’s nothing better than seeing a workplace group of women out there on the green, showing the blokes how it’s done.”

For Max, the event’s success is also a testament to the power of partnerships.

“We couldn’t do this without the incredible support of our sponsors and enthusiastic participants,” he says.

“I want to specifically thank Frank Attard from Key Solutions Group, our joint naming rights sponsor, along with all our major and minor sponsors. Their commitment is what allows us to ensure that 100 per cent of the funds raised go directly to those in need in our region.”

With all player spots and sponsorships already sold out for 2025, demand for the event has never been stronger.

“We continue to look at ways to include more participants each year,” Max adds.

It’s rare to find an event that marries fun, philanthropy, and inclusivity quite so seamlessly — rarer still to find one that does it for ten years straight.

As this milestone year tees off, one thing is clear: whether you’re here for the birdies or just to avoid the bunkers, every swing is helping build something far more meaningful than a scorecard.

After all, in Max Lamb Jr’s world, a golf day isn’t just a round — it’s a rallying cry for community, compassion, and doing good in style.
