More Than Switches and Sockets

GB Industries’ 20-Year Power Surge

What began in 2005 as a small team of electricians in Mackay has grown into a powerhouse operation, lighting up Queensland’s biggest industries. GB Industries has spent the past 20 years wiring up everything from coal mines to rail networks, proving that when it comes to innovation and grit, regional businesses can punch well above their weight.

From its early days with just a couple of staff, GB Industries has grown to a steady workforce, operating across South East Queensland, and deep into Queensland’s mining heartlands. Their projects aren’t just about switches and sockets; they have accomplished massive projects, including complete substation replacements, large-scale control systems and automation upgrades, integration of significant electrical safety systems, and installation of cutting-edge processing plant at some of Queensland’s biggest mines.

What makes GB Industries stand out is the reputation they have built in shaping the next generation of tradespeople. GB Industries has a strong pipeline of apprentices, thanks to its partnership with CQ University. The company ensures that young electricians come out job-ready, with industrial experience far beyond that of its competitors. Their commitment to apprentices even saw a second-year apprentice claim runner-up in the Master Electricians Apprentice of the Year awards.

In 20 years of operation, GB Industries has successfully supported and trained over 30 electrical apprentices to the completion of their Certificate III in Electrotechnology, and they will be adding a further two apprentices to their current group in 2026.

In addition to trade apprenticeships, GB Industries also supports business traineeships through a partnership with MRAEL, where their trainees complete a 12-month program and earn a Certificate III in Business Administration.

Australia is experiencing a trade shortage, meaning new apprentices will never be short of work upon completion. However, it’s not just work that makes GB Industries the place to be; it’s the culture.

The workplace culture values flexibility, teamwork, and a balanced approach. With lifestyle-friendly rosters and a mix of seasoned professionals and fresh talent, GB Industries isn’t just wiring Queensland’s future; it’s shaping it.
