With ACS ENGINEERING

Serving mining and engineering firms across Mackay and the Bowen Basin, Advanced Cutting Solutions (ACS Engineering) delivers precision fabrication, coded welding, and CNC profile cutting on virtually any material. Whatever the cutting or fabrication need, ACS has the solution.

Reflecting on his early days at Swift Engineering, Justin a trade qualified Boilermaker and Trade teacher said: “CNC processing is almost like a trade in its self, It will have you thinking outside the box with innovative  and sometimes challenging ways to get a result, it was this same challenge that inspired us (Justin and wife Leah a Chef )  to look for something for ourselves, which lead us to buy into ACS Engineering back in 2008”

Since then, ACS has grown into a full-service engineering and fabrication workshop, recognized for high quality Fabrication, CNC processing using waterjet, oxy, high-definition plasma, and CO₂ laser cutting, Office Manager Leah Fraser recalls:

“When we first started at ACS, we only had a Waterjet Cutting Machine, a few hand tools, no stock material and no job tracking system.

“Along with our profile cutting services we also offer: Small, Medium and Large Fabrication, Submerged Arc welding, TIG welding, Pressing and simple Machining along with a vast array of materials and a world-class job tracking system.”

Even the company mascot, Archie the Schnauzer, has become a local legend since joining in 2012, earning a cult following from customers and couriers alike. Archie is apparently, "quick to train any unsuspecting customer, courier or sales rep as he darts between their legs positioning himself for a lower back scratch rewarding his human servant by dancing on the spot.”

“Archie has attracted a following with customers and couriers, even going off route to drop-in just to give Archie a pat and a scratch,” Leah laughs.

ACS has achieved notable milestones, including supplying a full set of Underground Spills in under eight weeks and developing a deep bore camera to inspect underground mine sites after an underground explosion, this was the first of its kind globally. ACS also won a Safety Innovation Award for a device used at Saraji Washplant back in 2012.

Justin explains their Unique service:

A large majority of the time our customers will have a problem to solve and we here at ACS are able to design and help them innovate something that is fit for purpose with safety at the forefront of any design and then proceed to full manufacture of the item.

“Our new Innovative 3D printer is operated by our wizz Rose, who turns any wild idea (and there are many) into a fully rendered model in just minutes.”

Looking ahead, ACS remains committed to innovation, growth and training, with Leah noting:

“We have just employed a new staff member (Sean Melvin) in our office to assist our workshop “Super”visor Evan. Sean has been an injection of enthusiasm and has floated some grand ideas, to further support our local engineering business’.

“Sean has a background in underground Overhauls along with washplant experience, so I would expect our workload to increase with the support of the current overhaul companies throughout Mackay and the Bowen Basin.”

“We are always looking for good people who will be appreciated and rewarded. If you are a fabricator looking to work on a diverse range of jobs ACS Engineering wants you, we will train you where you need training, this might include TIG welding, CNC waterjet, Laser, Plasma, Oxy cutting, submerged Arc Welding, pressing and forming you name it, we do it”
