For Laura Hamilton, life after 40 has been defined not by slowing down, but by discovering just how much more was possible.
Now 46, the founder and director of Elegance Lymphatic Care has transformed some of her most difficult experiences into a career dedicated to helping others feel heard, understood and supported.
After growing up in Ballarat and moving to Queensland around 20 years ago, Laura eventually made the Mackay region home. Her journey has encompassed motherhood, significant health challenges, major surgeries and career changes, including her own experiences with lipoedema, lymphoedema and chronic pain.
Rather than allowing those chapters to define her, Laura used them to shape what came next.
She returned to study, became an accredited lymphoedema practitioner and established Elegance Lymphatic Care, creating the kind of support she once wished had been available to her.
Professionally, building the clinic and sharing her knowledge at conferences and industry events have been significant achievements. Personally, she is proudest of raising her daughter with the confidence to know challenges do not have to determine her future.
Laura says her 40s have brought a newfound sense of clarity, confidence and purpose.
“The greatest gift has been finally understanding who I am and no longer feeling that I need everyone else’s approval.”
It is also a decade that has taught her there is no deadline for reinvention.
“You are not too old, and it is not too late. Everything you have experienced has prepared you for what comes next.”
As she looks ahead, Laura hopes to continue growing her clinic, further her education and watch her daughter forge her own path.
And for Laura, some of life’s most meaningful chapters may still be waiting to be written.
