What began as a practical solution has grown into a local success story, transforming backyards across the Whitsundays, one plunge pool at a time. Spotting a clear gap in the market, Instant Pools Whitsundays stepped in to deliver high-quality, Australian-made plunge pools to properties previously considered too difficult for installation.
Jack ‘Lofty’ Loft and Casey Loft, founders of Instant Pools Whitsundays and also the team behind Whitsunday Crane Hire, shared the story of how their pool business first came to life.
“There wasn’t anything out there for above ground or freestanding pools, especially for sloping blocks,” Lofty said.
“We were constantly installing pools for other companies through our crane hire business and kept running into the same problems, that's where we saw a gap in the market.”
Now, three years in, the company exclusively services the Whitsundays, offering little fibreglass pools that are durable, stylish, and surprisingly simple to install.
“If your site’s ready, we lift it into place, fill it with water, and you can be swimming that afternoon.”
The pools weigh just over a tonne, which is a featherweight compared to 12-tonne precast concrete alternatives.
“From a crane perspective, that makes a huge difference. We can place them up to 46 meters out with our current fleet, and that just opens up a whole range of sites.”
Weight isn’t the only difference. Unlike shipping container pools, which struggle with salt and chlorine corrosion, Instant Pools' fibreglass pools are made to last.
“They’re framed in glass-reinforced plastic, not steel, so they don’t rust. They're strong, clean, and perfect for our coastal climate.”
Made by Compass Pools, the range includes freestanding fibreglass pools in “Plunge” “Relax”, “Refresh”, and “Play” models, all of which are completely customisable.
“They’re all Australian-made, too. We need to support quality local suppliers, and our customers appreciate knowing they’re getting a product built for Aussie conditions.”
On the note of supporting locally, Lofty added that giving back is a big part of the business’s DNA. Over the years, they’ve proudly thrown their support behind a diverse mix of local and regional causes, from grassroots footy teams like the Brahmans and high-octane motorsports to netball clubs, mental health initiatives, not-for-profits and community festivals.
The team isn’t afraid to innovate either.
“One customer wanted an infinity-style window at the end of their plunge pool,” he says.
“We worked with the manufacturer, and 12 months later, we delivered the first of its kind. It gives the illusion of a negative edge but keeps all the water contained.”
Despite juggling Instant Pools alongside Whitsunday Crane Hire, the founders maintain a sharp focus on customer service.
“We’re not the cheapest out there, and we’re upfront about that. But what we offer is service and quality. If something’s not right, we’ll fix it. That’s how we run both businesses.”
At its core, Instant Pools is about bringing luxury pool experiences to people who never thought it possible.
“A lot of people have easements or tricky sites and think they can’t have a pool. We show them they can, without the cost and complexity of concrete construction.”
“We just love seeing the customer’s reaction when it’s finished. There’s nothing better than knowing we helped turn a backyard into a space for fun, connection, and relaxation.”
