Since being founded by Michael and Madison Cotter almost a decade ago, Cotter Builders has gone from strength to strength in the industry. Flashing back to 2015, Michael Cotter was pursuing his building license, while Madison Cotter had just obtained her Bachelor of Architectural Design and Building Design License. Their paths crossed, and their shared vision had transformed into the thriving business that is Cotter Builders.
Cotter Builders, a family-run and orientated business, whose inspiration is led by the owner’s two small boys, Hayes and Spencer, specialises in high-end custom new homes and renovations in the Mackay and Whitsunday region. Within the team, they have an in-house building designer, an interiors team alongside their construction team, which is something co-owner Madison Cotter says sets them apart from the rest.
From the start of the design phase, all the way through to the end of the construction, the team at Cotter Builders always ensure they do whatever it takes to deliver a premium product for their highly valued clients.
“Our clients tend to become our lifelong friends. What we are creating here is a lifestyle, and we want our clients to be a part of it”.
Cotter Builders has established itself as a leader in Mackay's building industry by providing integrated design and construction services all under one roof. Unlike many builders who require clients to choose from a database or source their own plans, Cotter Builders manages the entire process. Their commitment to excellence is evident, as nearly every home they create has garnered awards in its respective categories.
Villa Ta Lumi, one of Cotter Builders’ standout new homes, was recently awarded the prestigious 2024 Master Builders BUSSQ Super President’s Award, best house in its Category and Bathroom of the Year for the Mackay and Whitsundays region. Its stunning design, characterised by a striking façade and a clever fusion of Coastal, Mediterranean and Contemporary styles, has captured significant attention on social media, including a feature by the well-known Three Birds Renovations to their 1 million followers.
Alongside Villa Ta Lumi, the Cotters latest project, Villa Athena, is also generating buzz online, further showcasing Cotter Builders’ commitment to excellence and innovative design.
Owners Madison and Michael are dedicated to supporting the Mackay community by offering school-based work experience, apprenticeships, flexible family-friendly schedules for their staff, and actively participating in local events. Additionally, Madison serves as a mentor for the Master Builders Women in Building initiative. Cotter Builders prioritise sourcing materials locally, partnering with businesses like Porters Mackay to strengthen the community further.
“We like giving back to the community and supporting other local businesses,” Madison explained.
To ensure they keep up with industry trends and regulations, Cotter Builders is part of numerous industry bodies, including Master Builders and the Building Design Association of QLD, who always keep the business up to date with the current legislation and education. However, Madison explained that they go even further to ensure the business stays ahead of the pack.
If you are looking for a quality, bespoke new home and a building experience like no other from start to finish, contact Cotter Builders who are ready to take on the challenge.
“We’re innovative, unique and we have a design focused vision”.

From minefields to construction sites, Kate and Nic Buhler’s business was fuelled by the uniting of different paths. Kate started as an operator at the mines and Nic owned a roofing business with a close friend. This all changed in 2013 when Nic’s business partner decided to go in a different direction and Kate received the joyous news of her pregnancy. In 2021 The couple decided to create a family company and Tin Lid Enterprises was born that same year, along with their second child.
While Nic is busy on top of houses directing the roofing side of things, Kate has her head in the books, sorting all things admin and quoting. Alongside themselves, they have a team of eight individuals including two apprentices, one who will be fully qualified in January and the other whom started in July.
Tin Lid specialise in metal roofing and do everything from big commercial properties to domestic projects. Happy to take on almost any job, they love nothing more than fitting a premium quality roof and are ready to help you with any roofing project you may throw at them.
Tin Lid is known for its versatility across various projects, but they’ve also tackled significant undertakings in Airlie Beach, including the roof of the new fire station, the Shute Harbour Boat Terminal, and the upcoming Mackay Resource Centre which will start construction early next year.
Kate expressed her excitement about these large projects and giving back to the community:
“The fire station was a major undertaking that we’re really proud of, especially since it’s something the town truly needs,” she shared.
What makes Tin Lid unique is their close-knit crew who are more like family and can often be found hanging out after work.
“They love roofing, it is a really great team, and they're all so proud of their job and their work,” Kate added.
This year, in just their third year of operation, Tin Lid proudly won a prestigious Master Builders Award – the Ken & Nola Clark Memorial Award, which shows their dedication to their business.
When they aren't scaling roofs and drawing up quotes, Nic and Kate take some much-needed rest camping in Lake Proserpine with their family.
Need a new roof? Make sure to call Tin Lid Enterprises.

Understanding what is covered by your car insurance policy can help you avoid unexpected costs in the future. So, how do you know if you have the right cover for your vehicle?
Let’s take a brief look at options
* Excess – Check the standard Excess amount payable especially at renewal.
Make sure the amount of excess does not increase to keep the cost the same.
Also, important to check the age excess for young drivers, consider if you can accept a higher amount of excess if you have more than one accident a year?
* Kilometres –Pay as you go insurance can be great however the costs are enormous if you go over the km’s registered and then have an accident. So, it is best to check regularly perhaps leave a reminder in the car or Calendar to check your odometer every three months.
* Hire Car - Different options are available upon request
Consider for a small cost up front, compared to if your vehicle is not road worthy, and immediately off the road following an accident.
In some locations parts may be unavailable, or the repairer unable to commence for weeks.
Some policies have an unlimited hire car option which can be of great benefit if you do not have access to another vehicle. Especially as parts shortages continue
• Windscreen Inclusion – Newer model vehicles have lots of high-end technology to help keep you and your family safe.
The cost of windscreens now range between $120 to upward of $3000 with additional costs for calibrating radar units, rain sensors and codes. Once this option is removed from your policy it is difficult to get back. So defiantly worth including.

In a world where traditional methods for addressing behavioural challenges often fall short, Habitude is redefining how behaviour consulting can create real, lasting change.
How, you say? The key lies in a holistic approach and a guiding principle: “Do different, better.”
Habitude’s innovative work has earned significant recognition in the Mackay region, including two prestigious honours at the recent Mackay Region Chamber of Commerce Best in Business Awards.
Dr. Suzanne Francisco, the Owner and CEO, won the 'Mover of Mountains' award, and Habitude was a top-three finalist for the 'Next Big Thing' award.
Drawing in on her deep background in education and disability care, Suzanne’s journey began in classrooms where she witnessed firsthand how students, parents and teachers struggled with behavioural issues. This experience fuelled her drive to fill the gaps in traditional support systems.
After earning a doctorate focused on teacher behaviours through the lens of attachment theory, Suzanne was able to forge an approach that fuses educational principles with behavioural strategies. These strategies are now applied at Habitude in ways that reach across schools, homes, communities and even workplaces.
Suzanne's shift from educator to behaviour consultant marked a pivotal moment in her career. She realised that true behavioural change goes deeper than addressing surface-level symptoms - it requires a comprehensive understanding of the underlying factors in each person’s life. This insight has shaped Habitude’s client interactions, creating an environment where individuals feel valued, heard and empowered to make meaningful changes.
Since its founding, Habitude has transformed countless lives. For example, young individuals who once isolated themselves have re-entered society through employment and social engagement, thanks to the targeted interventions led by Suzanne and her team.
Similarly, clients emerging from dysfunctional family environments have learned to live independently, proving that small but intentional changes can profoundly improve mental health and overall well-being.
One standout program at Habitude is Learning@Life, which engages clients in activities designed to build skills in supportive settings. In one case, an NDIS client has found fulfillment volunteering at a local playgroup, gaining social skills and self-esteem through personalised tasks and a sense of responsibility.
Habitude’s work doesn’t stop at the individual level…it even extends to families, too.
Programs like Circle of Security and 1-2-3 Magic empower parents to better understand their children’s emotional and behavioural needs. By equipping caregivers with effective tools for fostering positive behaviour, Habitude strengthens the family dynamic and helps create more supportive home environments.
Be sure to book for their recently opened Bee-Haven Sensory Play sessions. Facilitated by Oh Sensory, themed learning experiences encourage children of all abilities to activate their senses through safe, tactile, food-based mediums. Watch this space as ideas are buzzing!
Stemming from Habitude’s willingness to implement evident-based practices, Suzanne and her team successfully use a range of proven methods, such as the Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS) for non-verbal clients and the Zones of Regulation program, which teaches emotional awareness and self-regulation.
Within the walls of Habitude, the inviting atmosphere creates a safe and comforting space. With its variety of quirky chairs, toys, and cozy areas for all ages, the centre offers an environment where individuals can relax and engage in programs without the barren, clinical feel.
As Habitude grows, so does its impact. Suzanne’s vision prioritises the capabilities of individuals - not their limitations, with a mission to promote healthier relationships within families, schools, workspaces and communities. Through this perspective, Habitude is reshaping society’s understanding of behaviours that challenge and proving that with the right approach, real change is possible.

Lloyd and Elliott's journey to founding Baltic Group began years before the company's official formation."Elliott and I had studied at TAFE together and ended up working at the same business about eight years later," Lloyd recalls. "We worked in the same role, travelling throughout the Bowen Basin together and building some really good relationships throughout that time. We had talked about combining our expertise into our own business off and on for a long time, but finally put the plan into action after discovering some gaps in the market we knew we could solve and execute to a high standard. Plus a few too many big weeks away helped to pull that trigger."
Their story is one of true-blue Aussie determination, starting with little, to creating a legacy to be proud of in a few short years. "We had to borrow a car from my brother-in- law just to get to work in the early days," Lloyd explained. "The challenges were significant, especially with the onset ofCOVID-19 right as we launched, but our determination and experience helped us navigate those tough times."
Their combined industry experience laid a strong foundation for Baltic Group's success. Lloyd, who started his mechanical fitting apprenticeship in 2012, gained extensive experience in wash plant maintenance and operations. Elliott, who began his mechanical fitting apprenticeship in 2011, honed his skills in the sugar industry before moving to fixed plant maintenance in the mines.
In early 2023, Baltic Group embarked on a new phase of growth by integrating Beau Hargrave and Todd Saron into its leadership team. Beau, a seasoned electrician, brought his expertise to the company through the acquisition of his previous business, BH Electrical, which was rebranded as Baltic Electrical. "At Baltic Electrical, we strive to offer a wide range of services, from residential maintenance to complex commercial and industrial projects. Our extensive experience ensures we meet the diverse needs of our clients effectively," Beau said. At a similar time, Baltic Group launched Baltic Diesel, withTodd Saron at the helm. "Baltic Diesel excels in heavy mobile equipment maintenance, offering both preventative maintenance and complete rebuilds. Our expertise ensures minimal downtime and enhanced equipment performance,” Todd explained.
Both Beau and Todd manage and hold part-ownership in their respective divisions at Baltic Group, reflecting their integral roles in the company's continued expansion and success. Baltic Group's commitment to excellence and growth isevident in its plans for the future. The construction of a new facility inPaget in 2025 will cater to the company's expanding requirements, while theopening of Baltic Group WA Pty Ltd in Perth on 12th August 2024, marks asignificant milestone in their geographical expansion.
"As we look towards the future, we are excited aboutthe opportunities ahead. Our plans for expansion and new facilities are a testament to ourcommitment to serving our clients across Australia with excellence,"Elliott added. The company's success is built on the strong relationshipsand combined expertise of its founders and directors. As Lloyd and Elliottcontinue to lead Baltic Engineering, Beau and Todd's contributions to BalticElectrical and Baltic Diesel ensure that Baltic Group remains at the forefrontof the industry.

Celebrating 20 years in business last year, Eclipse Financial Planning is thrilled to announce the beginning of a new and exciting era, one that sees this iconic local business move into a modern setting and a brand-new office space on Carlo Drive in Cannonvale. Here, the dedicated team can spread their wings and extend a heartfelt welcome to new and existing clients. The office space boasts stylish design touches, atmospheric greenery and comfortable high-tech meeting rooms.
Established in 2003 and originating in Airlie Beach, Eclipse Financial Planning is dedicated to providing a tailored approach to helping their clients achieve their financial goals. The highly experienced team of three Financial Advisors, two Client Service Managers and three Support Staff is led by their fearless leader, Justin Butler who has been a Financial Planner for the past 33 years.
After two decades located at their modest office space on Island Drive, the Eclipse team decided it was time to expand. The move to this larger, modern space enables Eclipse to offer a more comfortable setting for their clients and is conveniently located just two minutes from Whitsunday Plaza on the new industrial estate complex.
The all-new office is open-plan and has vaulted-ceilings which add to an uplifting sense of space and light. The thoughtfully designed interview rooms and spacious board room maintain the privacy to deal with personal financial matters, leaving plenty of scope for all three advisors to see different clients at the same time. Managing Director & Financial Adviser, Justin Butler, says that the new space prevents any clashes, and opens up availability for their clients:
“We are all available to see clients pretty much at any time because there are three interview offices,” he explains.
The primary driver for the move was to improve the client’s experience with Eclipse, and to keep up with the changing trends of Cannonvale:
“Our previous office was quite old and dated and the business hub at Cannonvale is effectively moving out towards Whitsunday Plaza, with the post office and the banks, so it was time to make a move and we're very happy with how it’s all worked out.”
In addition to its more convenient location and all-new office spacing, having new subtenants' positions Eclipse for potential future expansion in 10 or 15 years if desired, allowing their new workplace to continue to transition in the future with their ever-growing business.
Alongside the new workplace Managing Director, Justin Butler, is extremely happy with the solid and seasoned team he has now at Eclipse. Offering a seamless and professional service, each advisor shares the same mentality and integrity which makes their expert advice united and beneficial for all their clients.
Eclipse’s main value has always been exceptional customer service for their clients. While the government has mandated customer service in the financial planning field since the global financial crisis in the last five or six years, Eclipse has already been doing it for 20.
Putting the customer front and centre is what sets them apart from the rest.
Find out how you could benefit from solid financial advice by calling into Eclipse’s brand-new office space at 4/1 Carlo Drive in Cannonvale today.
What does the future hold for Eclipse?
Eclipse is looking forward to a period of growth, and with their beautiful new workspace Eclipse has the availability to do more community-based events. The team is looking at kicking off a fantastic Christmas in July event annually, which is not just for their clients but also for the community.

From milk that tastes ‘just like it used to when we were kids,’ Maleny Dairies is an award-winning, family-owned and operated business committed to sustainability for people, place and products.
Twenty-four years ago, Ross and Sally Hopper made the courageous decision to build their own processing and bottling plant and purchase milk from local dairy farms. At the heart of their business is the commitment to ensuring a sustainable future for Australia’s dairy industry by paying a fair price to farmers for the high-quality milk they produce.
The success of Maleny Dairies can be greatly attributed to its 12 dairy farming families who produce high-quality milk. Maleny Dairies is proud to support, purchase and process milk from local dairy farmers. When consumers purchase Maleny Dairies' products, they know they are supporting hard-working local dairy farmers
For more than two decades, the Hoppers have supplied Queenslanders with a suite of milks, creams, custard and yoghurt.
“Our loyal followers love our Farmer’s Choice Milk, which is pasteurised only, allowing for a delicious layer of cream on top of the milk. We endeavour to keep processing to a minimum and produce milk that is as close as possible to fresh cow’s milk. You’re going to love the taste of it!” – Ross Hopper.
Since 2021, Ross and Sally have expanded their product range now incorporating a Lactose Free Full Cream Milk and Cream.
“Lactose intolerant consumers are seeking dairy products with the least amount of processing while still tasting great. Our team worked tirelessly to create a lactose-free milk that tastes like fresh milk – which the whole household can enjoy.”
More recently, Ross and Sally were provided the opportunity to expand their reach into Far North Queensland.
“We’re delighted that more Queenslanders will now have the opportunity to enjoy our products, allowing us to support more farmers and keep Queensland’s dairy industry alive.
“Go Queensland!”
